Veteran actor and scriptwriter Sanjaya Leelaratne is planning to make a huge contribution to the country’s arts by directing his maiden movie titled ‘Selvam’ – based on a post-war plot aimed at creating a harmonious linkage among all religious and ethnic groups – especially the Sinhalese and Tamils. A Tamil youth who is still being rehabilitated will play the title role of the film. Interestingly the big-budget movie with this noble mission is being produced by a Muslim national Mohamed Mujahid - a world renowned Entrepreneur who is now the Chairman of Docorno Movie company. The muhurath ceremony of the movie was held at Water’s Edge last Friday amidst a distinguished gathering. The victory at the bay of Nandikadal did not deter the war heroes to rest on their laurels. But instead they proved to the rest of humanity and most to themselves that the true humanitarian nature of a Sri Lankan citizen by providing all necessities to the true victims and ensuring the progress of their livelihood by providing them opportunity for self-sufficiency. What is most amazing is the divine nature of a simple soldier who rather than imprisoning captured terrorists and condemning them for life begins to rehabilitate 12000 of them. The once dreaded terrorists are back in society contributing towards peace. The camera direction is by renowned Jayanath Gunawardana with the cast comprising legendary stars Malani Fonseka and Joe Abeywickrama ably supported by the talented Lukshman Mendis, Jayani Senanayake, Chandika Nanayakkara, Sanjaya Leelarathne, Shalani Tharaka, Nadaraja Sivam, Vishaka Siriwardhana and others including 1500 extras. Ranjith de Silva handles the art department, Make up by Ranjith Wickramasinghe and the Executive Producer is Dr. Mohan Siribaddana and assistant Director Jagath Ananda Senevirathne.
